Mr Benger, who studied science at University, spent his career as a research chemist at Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI).
But upon moving to Bideford, the chemist started working for Bethel Church in East-the-Water, where he preached for 10 years.

When asked the secret to a long life, Mr Benger said: “Help other people as much as you can.
“God has been good to me,” he said. “I wanted to do all I possibly could for him in return.”
